NAVI MUMBAI: The civic body is considering a plan for a foot overbridge near Turbhe station on Thane-Belapur Road, which will be submitted to the commissioner for approval, city engineer, Mohan Dagaonkar, said. The plan is being considered as the newly-installed rumblers have been causing traffic jams during peak hours.
Last week, three rumblers were put up wihin a 50m distance of each other near the Turbhe station after a mother and son were killed in an accident.
“NMMC must build a skywalk or foot overbridge near Turbhe station,” said Vishwanath Kopekar, a resident. Motorists alleged that it takes almost 20 minutes to cross the 500m stretch from S K wheels to the station. “Buses are running late and even pedestrians are inconveniened,” said a Nerul resident.
Dagaonkar said that the speed breakers are a temporary measure to prevent fatal accidents. “Earlier NMMC had considered the proposal for a skywalk, but abandoned it, as several are hardly used and most of them are used as shelters by beggars and stray dogs. Later, the idea of an underpass was also given up as many underground pipelines pass through the area. So now a skywalk is being considered,” he added.
